Are You Worried That You Are Suffering From An Anxiety Disorder?

Just about everyone experiences some form of anxiety in their lives, in fact it's probably fair to say that everyone experiences anxiety. To be anxious from time to time is part of the human condition. And usually relief for that anxiety comes when the causal factor goes away.

We all have the "fight or flight" response in us, and anxiety or fear is a part of that. Our bodies need to gear up for what is perceived as a dangerous situation. Our bodies release adrenalin to help with producing energy, our heart rate increases and we become more sensitive to surrounding stimuli.

However for some the anxiety becomes more serious. Our minds can become used to recognising dangerous situations, and eventually see dangerous situations where they do not exist. And so our body employs the "fight or flight" response where it is not necessary. The adrenalin is still released, our bodies still react, and eventually this can become a problem.

Anxiety can leave us feeling nervous or upset. This can be quite normal. However when this becomes a more constant condition, perhaps accompanied by some more serious physical effects it can become a part of our life, and then the anxiety becomes almost a habit.

Our mind becomes used to feeling anxious and upset and almost finds it easier to feel that way than not to. Then the anxiety has become a problem and can become chronic anxiety. Then it can start to cause various problems, including both physical and mental problemsm and can become worse and worse.

So how do we recognise the point where we have moved from normal and everyday anxiety in response to a situation where we would expect to become anxious, and where we have moved from that to feeling anxious unnecessarily and where it is starting to become a problem?

Factors to look for include frequency. If this is happening more and more frequently then it may be becoming a problem. It can also include degree. Where the impact of the anxiety attacks is getting more and more serious that can also be a danger flag.

And look for physical and psychological symptoms as well. Chronic anxiety can include such symptoms as irritability, depression, insomnia, phobias, and hypersensitivity to common stimulus such as noise or certain sights. Physical symptoms also include shakiness, fast heart rate, dizziness, digestive upset, headaches, muscle aches, and skin conditions.

And this is just the start. There are a wide range of physical and phychological symptoms which can even be quite unique for certain individuals.

Obviously this can affect your life and should be dealt with. If you are at all worried that your signs and symptoms of anxiousness are more serious than they should be then face up to it and consult your doctor first. It never helps to try and ignore it, it will usually just get worse and it is often much harder to treat the worse it gets.

There are answers to anxiety, anxiety attacks and anxiety disorders and they can all be treated. There are things you can do, don't despair. Seek professional help and deal with the problem, you'll be much better off than trying to ignore it.
